The “Vardaris Neighbourhood Group of the Self-Help Promotion Programm proceeds with the publication of the fifth in a series of thematic calendars “Fisixe Vardaris” edited by Thomas Korovinis.

The calendar for 2024, following the success of last year’s calendar, has the theme “The songs of Vardari”. It is an original multi-faceted agenda in the pages of which songs are hosted. Each month makes its entrance with a musical proposal. Once again excellent musicians (Pericles Vrachnos, Thanasis Gaifillias, Kaisaras Kikis, Albena Kutova, Yannis Mitsis and Thomas Petrou, Dimitris Mystakidis, Dimitris Nikoloudis, George Christianakis, George Christodoulou), and musical groups (The Speakeasies swing band, Psylli st ahyra, the music group of the Self-Help Promotion Programm of Thessaloniki with the participation of Yiannis Tsiatsos) participate with a re-performance, an arrangement, an original song, or the setting of a poem, referring to Thessaloniki, Vardaris, its atmosphere.

The texts of important writers (Thomas Korovinis, Evie Koutroubaki, Kostas Barbatsis) that refer to the songs of Vardaris, the entertainment centres of the area, to well-known musicians-composers (Kaldaras, Vamvakaris, Binis, Tsitsanis), as well as to everyday people who wrote their own history inside and outside them, introduce us to this atmosphere.

Two excellent artists Sotos Zachariadis and Lefki Christidou contribute, with paintings they have provided, to the aesthetic result of the calendar.

Each calendar includes a CD of the music collection and a unique code for listening to it from a computer or smartphone.

All musicians, composers and artists participate pro bono. The proceeds from the sale of this calendar will be donated by the “Vardaris Neighbourhood Group” for actions and interventions in the Vardaris area.

In these difficult times, when solidarity and selfless participation are not self-evident, the presence of these inspiring musicians, visual artists, writers, who have contributed their part in the creation of this calendar, by composing, writing, recording or lending their work, sounds like a note of optimism.

Self-Help Promotion Program

The Self-Help Promotion Program bases its mode of operation on contemporary critical approaches to the science of Psychology and other social sciences, as well as the field of addictions. Based on these approaches, the program emphasises the social, political and cultural dimensions of the causes of the problem of addiction and other psychosocial problems. At the same time, people and their needs are placed at the centre of the interventions implemented, with their emancipation and the recovery of their dignity as the main priorities. The central pillars of the interventions carried out by the program are the concept of self-help/mutual aid and the protagonist role of those directly concerned.
